Registration and Regulation Division

Registration and regulation division is charged with the of mandate: –

  1. Promote and stimulate development of co-operative societies
  2. Enforce compliance to the Co-operative Societies Act, Sacco Societies Act and other relevant legislations
  3. Provide legal and regulatory support for co-operative societies growth and development

The division has two sections with following respective mandate(s) and activities-

A: REGISTRATION SECTION

Registration section is charged with the mandate of: –

  1. To promote and stimulate development of co-operative societies

The section implements the following activities: –

  1. Appraisal and approval of registration of new co-operative societies
  2. Appraisal and approval of registration of co-operative societies’ amended by laws
  3. Maintenance of register of co-operatives
  4. Official name searches for new co-operative registrations
  5. Maintenance of legal registry
  6. Management of co-operative management information system (CMIS)

B: REGULATION SECTION

Regulation section is charged with the mandate of: –

  1. Enforcing compliance to the Co-operative Societies Act, Sacco Societies Act and other relevant legislations
  2. Provide legal and regulatory support for co-operative societies growth and development

The section implements the following activities: –

  1. Carrying out inquiries and inspections in co-operative societies
  2. Registration of charges and debentures for co-operatives societies
  3. Official searches for co-operative societies
  4. Preparation of surcharge orders
  5. Implementation of inquiry and inspection reports
  6. Carrying out liquidation of co-operative societies
