The government has introduced E-voucher -to give subsidies to small scale farmers and lower the prices of inputs even further. In this regard, farmers will be issued with smart cards with which they can access farm inputs at a subsided price by swiping at the participating outlets. In other words, the farmer pays only 70% of the selling price and the government subsidizes 30%.
The E-voucher is already being piloted with maize farmers in Makueni and Uasin Gishu counties.
